The Role of Civic Education in Promoting Democratic Engagement Among Youth
Abstract
This study investigates the role of civic education in promoting democratic engagement among youth, focusing on how educational initiatives can foster active citizenship. The research begins with a literature review that outlines the significance of civic education in cultivating informed and engaged citizens. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study collects quantitative data on civic knowledge and participation rates among students exposed to civic education programs, alongside qualitative interviews with educators and students. The findings reveal that students who receive comprehensive civic education are more likely to engage in democratic processes, such as voting and community involvement. Additionally, the research highlights the importance of experiential learning opportunities, such as service projects and simulations, in enhancing civic engagement. The study concludes with recommendations for educational institutions to strengthen civic education curricula, advocating for policies that prioritize democratic education as a cornerstone of fostering engaged and informed citizens.
